Discerning Eyes

Plot

In Discerning Eyes, Jennifer  and Lily move to Lagos from Ghana, to Lily’s dismay. On their way there’s a minor accident in which Sabina grazes her knee as she falls from shock of being missed by a car. Jennifer insists on tending to her injuries. It turns out they are neighbours. Still reacting to their relocation Lily attempts to run away.

When Elozonam, Sabina’s dad comes to make trouble about Sabina’s accident he meets Jennifer, who is frantically searching for Lily. He offers to help her search for Lily, who they finally find at the mall.

Jennifer and Lily try to work through the challenges of moving to a new moving to a new town. Jennifer  expresses her gratitude her gratitude to Sabina and her dad, and as time goes on they become family friends. Lily though is not forthcoming, and is still reserved. It turns out that Elo and Jenny work on the same street, and so Elo offers her a ride which finally becomes a regular thing.

Sabina’s mother Andrea who left when she was a baby, suddenly shows up on her birthday. To Elo’s surprise she is in a wheelchair. Her visit disperses the party as Jenny and Lily leave. As Sabina is curious about whom the visitor is, Elo introduces her to her mother. Sabina does not take the introduction well and insists on being cold and unwelcoming. Lily notices her moody countenance and as they chat they both talk of their challenges and become friends.  It takes Elo’s intervention for her to finally accept her.

As Andrea finds that she has won her over, she begins to play tricks and keeps scheming and acting vulnerable. She even insinuates that Jenny pushed her down from her wheel chair. She even manages to ruin the relationship between Sabina, Elo and Jenny.

She is finally discovered when Sabina forgets, a school project and has to come back home to pick it up. She gets home only to find that Andrea is not paralyzed. Andrea confesses that her boyfriend broke up with her, and that she has three other children and nowhere to go. Elo throws her out of his house. Sabina goes to apologise to Jenny for her rudeness, while Elo apologizes for his lack of discernment. He decides to propose to  Jenny.
