Crown King

Plot

In the Crown King, Sukanmi is a hardworking young man who loses the only anchor he has, when his father dies. His crush Bisi stands by him and tries to console him. Their relationship however attracts the anger of her brother Ayodele, who warns him to stay away from his sister, Bisi. He tries to tell Bisi to find someone else and stop looking his way, she leaves very unhappy

Ayodele accosts Sukanmi once more, and gives him an eviction notice whilst raining insults on him. Sukanmi finally decides to leave the Agidan to another destination.

In the next village the Kabiyesi has gone to be with his ancestors. The death of the Kabiyesi scares and troubles Dolapo greatly. Dolapo has to also contend with Deji who has the weidest way of expressing his love.

Sukanmi finds refuge in the home of Olalekan and Abishola Laja, Dolapo’s parents. Due to her fear and aversion to men, Dolapo is hostile and keeps him at arm’s length.

It turns out he is a spitting image of the tyrannical and oppressive prince. With the help of Dolapo’s mother he finds work and accommodation with Deji, who insists on calling him Kabiyesi instead of his name.

Prince Gbenga continues to be arrogant despite the advice of his right hand man. He even challenges the eye and representatives of the gods and throws the farmers into prison. Deji escapes by giving everything to the prince.

As the chief priest has refused to crown him king, Prince Gbenga sends for a priest from another village and begins his search for Dolapo. When this fails he announces that he will crown himself king.

Sukanmi finally gets to know why Dolapo is averse to men and to him as well. He vows to her to protect her and goes everywhere with her. They become friends.

Prince Gbenga becomes king and goes after Dolapo and ostracizes the chiefs. As the palace guards cart Dolapo away, Sukanmi goes after them and rescues her. The king decides to go after her himself, he finds her mother, but before he can carry out his evil intentions, Sukanmi stands up to him. They are both shocked at their resemblance. In the ensuing scuffle Sukanmi is overpowered and locked up in the palace prison.

The Chief Priest comes to the palace, and Prince Gbenga is put in his place. It turns out that Sukanmi is the twin brother of Prince Gbenga. As he tries to attack him he is stopped by the gods.

Sukanmi becomes king, gets married to Dolapo and does not forget his friends. He even shows kindness to Ayodele, Bisi’s brother.
